INTRODUCTORY OBSERVATION FROM PATTY AFTER A DAY OF BIRDING:
BIRDS KNOW THAT, IN ORDER TO THRIVE, THEIR BABIES NEED THE BEST FOOD MONEY CAN’T BUY. THIS CHIPPING SPARROW PARENT MAKES HUNDREDS OF TRIPS A DAY TO FEED ITS OFFSPRING. THE BABIES FAIL TO THRIVE IF THE PARENT CAN’T FIND THE FOOD. WE HUMANS, HOWEVER, HAVE EVOLVED. WE KNOW THAT TO BE HUMAN MEANS THAT WE PROVIDE SAFETY NETS FOR THE LESS FORTUNATE AMONGST US. THE “SNAP” PROGRAM IS ONE SUCH NET. AND IT’S IN TROUBLE…SO, WITH THIS CHIPPING SPARROW INTRO, HERE’S MY 420 CHARACTER-9-LINER…
Congress! Don’t cut SNAP $!
Take a lesson from the folks at Work Horse
(They use draft horses instead of machines to solve the energy piece of the sustainability puzzle–another 420)
They harvest The Best Food Money Can’t Buy in the AM
and give it to the poor for free by the PM, along with cooking tips;
thereby cutting a poor family’s food insecurity, while improving its health**.

* This is the mindset of the WHOA outfit: “Our mission: to produce the healthiest and most delicious food possible, delivered free of charge to people who cannot afford the high price of organic produce. WHOA works with charities, health organizations, and food banks in Sonoma county.”
**At the Santa Roa Health Center in Roseland CA, 50% of Dr.Patricia Kulawiak’s adolescent patients are obese, and there’s an epidemic of diabetes. Poverty limits a poor families food options; it shows up in the health of our children.
