Haskell Billauer was my great-uncle
& one of the 6 million Jews targeted by the Nazis “final solution.”
Mom’s family knew he’d been killed
when the Red Cross returned the care packages
they’d been sending to the Warsaw Ghetto.
Why did the White House use the generic “sad” & “people”
instead of “Jewish” & “antisemitism”
in a 2017 Holocaust Rememberance paper?
Coded Holocaust-denying for the base?
Well, I remember Haskell.
More words on the title:
Elie Wiesel survivied the Holocaust. He said, “I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.”
More Thoughts from me, Patty:
I see insidious persecution taking root in our country. The Holocaust and other genocides happened because the rest of us let it. Afraid to speak out. Indifferent. Bystanders. “Don’t stand by” was the theme for last year’s Holocaust Memorial Day. What was Trump’s theme for this year’s rememberance? I fear his statement tells it all. I think the inner circles of the White House are flirting with Holocaust denial because some of the loyal base are looking for it.
