Advise and Consent, Really? Filibustering? Perseverating? Non-productive? Nay-saying? How About Some Exuberance and Leadership? Fledge, Ye Nestlings Over There on the Hill. Learn from the Birds: Pipits Survive and Take Wing. Will We? (Another 420 Character, 9-Line Poem by Patty)

Exuberant is not exactly how I felt

when we survived the gov’t shut-down,

at least not as exuberant as the Pipits I spy at Colebrook River Lake Dam

(really, all 3 in 1?),

newly arrived from their Tundra breeding grounds

where snow buries nests for 24 hours and only the 11-days-old kids live.

Fully-fledged*, these Pipits travel far and relish their luck,

making the most of it**.

Congress, can you be such too? Exuberant?.

* The Pipit’s tertials on the wing cover its primary flight feathers which protects the flight feathers from the sun. If the sun hits these feathers, they fade and get brittle. This tiny detail amazes me. Who would have thought that a denizen of the Tundra would need feather-sun-block. I think about this as I watch this flock frolic. What tiny twig will turn the tide for our log-jammed legislators?

** Even the Pipits drab, mottled brown coloring serves a purpose: camouflaging it against the soil and stones they’re resting on here at the Colebrook River. Lake. Dam.

Paired Bonds, Be They Birds or Bloviators, Need to Attend to Each Other. First off: Once You’re Elected to Serve the People, You’ve GOT to Think of Yourselves as Bonded. Or Has Gerrymandering Ruined It for All of Us? (Another 420 Character Piece in 9 Lines with inspiration from our Carolina Wrens)

Carolina Wrens and Congress: the former could inform the latter.

CWs form bonded pairs. For life. Through thick and thin.

Looking similar, they accomplish it all as a team:

Forage. Protect. Nurture. Nest.

Congressmen are bonded: their job is serve the people.

Accomplish.Through thick and thin.

And with their Brooks Brother suits, pocket squares, wing tips, blue silk ties, and America flag pins?

They look alike too.
