    1. Other books being read aloud to the grandkids during this two week stay in Wellfleet included the first Harry Potter with the approved illustrations, Tintin, the Animals of Farthing Wood, and Palmer Brown’s Hickory. Oh, and one of the Percy Jackson books. I’m amazed at what kids will listen to in multi-age groups so long as they’ve got stretched listening attention spans.

I remember one of our kids coming home from first grade with a scowl on his beautiful face. When asked what’s up kiddo, he says, “it’ll be years before they’ll let me read the kind of books I like to listen to.”

  2. WWWW love all variations on spelling. We agree with Mark Twain:

“I never had any large respect for good spelling. That is my feeling yet. Before the spelling-book came with its arbitrary forms, men unconsciously revealed shades of their characters and also added enlightening shades of expression to what they wrote by their spelling, and so it is possible that the spelling-book has been a doubtful benevolence to us.”
