1934: The President of Bates College strides into Sumner’s dorm room,
points to, then swings wide his closet door.
“No diploma if you don’t do something about these.”
“These” being 4 years of library books not clothes.
Or so went the story offered up
to explain our caviler attitude on overdue books.
But arresting a man driving his kid to school
for keeping Freddy Got Fingered for 14 years?
Not April’s Fool. Not 1934.
Remember Rewind Be Kind & Return? Sounds like April Fool’s but the guy* who inadvertently kept a “Freddy Got Fingered” VHS (!!) tape for 14 years got arrested** for this while bringing his kid to school. Really? I react partly as my father’s daughter but mostly because we shouldn’t be criminalizing such cases.***

***These cases should be decriminalized and handled in civil court like traffic tickets
