Listen to the “We Are Family” video and get up there and sing!! https://youtu.be/TNAQ8LLptUo   DSC01071  Caveat:

Some of the fun of the past couple of weeks was listening to metaphorical versions of “What’ll we Do With the Baby-O” in regard to this that and the other thing that comes up when a loving bunch of family is tooth and jowl for a while. As was ever thus, I learned things from my children that have improved me.

“Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage.” For some reason this Rilke line was in my head as I listened and learned from the gathering of our kids and grandkids in Wellfleet.  We missed the traveling couple who too would have informed and enlightened me as to the wisdoms of the world.

    1. Ronnie: In a sense I feel like Wendell Berry in this poem. When I am with these next two generations I rest in the grace of the world.

      The Peace of Wild Things
      BY WENDELL BERRY
When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

PS I need a drummer for the cello rendition of the Game of Thrones theme I’m doing with my piano-playing pal (and fellow woman who writes this blog)Toni. How about flying in and wowing us?

  2. Great photo, terrific quote, glad you had a wonderful time. You are truly blessed with lots of smiling faces, which are sometimes hard to keep smiling when so many personalities get together…:)

    1. What fascinates me about Rilke is that his poetry snags on my mind and memory as was the case with this line. Bits and pieces of it would float into my head all the while our family was visiting. Until I got home I didn’t even focus on it.
