HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMERICA… 239 YEARS AND COUNTING.
Here’s a little July 4 trivia to nibble on ~
Americans are expected to eat 150 million hot dogs
over the July 4th holiday.
Love that Joey Chestnut.
Last year, he won his eighth straight hot dog-eating contest by polishing off 61 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Then he got down on bended knee to propose to his fellow competitive eater/longtime girlfriend. She said yes. ♥ This year, Joey “Jaws” Chestnut will attempt to defend his title in the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest. He’ll probably win, and if he does it’ll be his ninth straight victory—a feat of longevity rarely seen in any athletic competition.
But today is all about America.
Two hundred thirty-nine years ago, a Pennsylvania journalist penned the first news coverage of what was likely to be the most important event in U.S. history. The entire story, buried beneath almost two pages of classified ads for runaway slaves, was one sentence — no longer than a tweet~ Philadelphia, July 3: Yesterday the Continental Congress declared the United Colonies free and independent states.
So, before the fireworks and fun begin, whip up some of these for your fellow Americans. Move over, Joey Chestnut. I’m doing small bites. Thanks go to BFF Mary-who-knows-how-to-share and the Master of Miniature Eats, Peter Callahan.
You absolutely must follow him on Pinterest.
Callahan’s signature hors d’oeuvres pop up time after time at the chicest events when only the best will do.
I love these minis.
I’m going to marinate mine in triple sec.
And share them with my friends.
It’s my patriotic duty.
