Evening in Bellagio, la perla del lago, the pearl of Lake Como.

The waters of Lake Como ring with the floating bells of fishermen’s nets. Hills sweep up from the shore, a trail leads to a mountain church that is glued to the hill, and the voice of a goatherd echoes near the Stelvio Pass.

I ask myself “Is this a dream?
Will it all vanish into air?
Is there a land of such supreme
And perfect beauty anywhere?

Exploring the role of peacemakers and what they have in common with the Brant*, a small goose that you might confuse with the omni-present Canada Goose; but don’t be; it’s special, as it and the aforementioned peacemakers venture to make something from what seems like nothing. (a 420 character, 9-line poem)

Something from nothing is what peacemakers try for:

like the Bradt who arrive on the still-frozen tundra,

mate, form eggs & lay them,

timing the hatch for when it greens up in mid-June & food abounds.

Mr & Mrs (life pairs) raise the goslings to flight stage

& then vamoose by early Sept. What if the snow melts late?

Mama reabsorbs the eggs & tries again next year.

Like for the peacemakers:

sometimes it’s just nothing.

*The Brant also has a highly developed salt gland that allows them to drink salt water, a feat that metaphorically seems required of our peacemakers as they endure the slings and arrows of those pitted against the elimination of war as the default setting for this small planet.
