When good Americans die, they go to Paris.
― Oscar Wilde

The bridges in Paris are a special part of the city.  Vehicular traffic crosses some of them, but there are mostly walkers, strollers, and runners. On and under these bridges, street musicians play, magicians perform, and beggars solicit.

One of my favorites, the Pont de Bir-Hakeim, crosses the River Seine. Maybe you saw it in the movie, Inception. CIMG1162The sculpture groups that are aligned with the piers at the arch springs were produced by Gustave Michel.  One group is called The Ironsmith Riveters. CIMG1164   The other statue group is called The Boatmen.  CIMG1163 Both are located beneath the lower level of the bridge and appear to descend into the Seine, the true essence of the city.

    1. The bridge has two levels: one for motor vehicles and pedestrians, and a railroad viaduct above. It was also in the movie Last Tango in Paris. Eartha Kitt, I adore her French side, she can purr. And of course, Santa Baby.
