If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.Untitled 2June 22, 1956

(I ‘m atop a box, fifth from the left, back row)

Back then, you just showed up on the first day of school, dressed in your best, already knowing that you must raise your hand to ask a question, use the pencil sharpener, and, most important of all, to tell on someone.

I. Was. So. Ready.

The Unexpected Problem: I‘m ready to start my Kindergarten life, arrive at the classroom…uh oh, no room for me?  This was not my/mother’s plan.

The Principal’s Solution: Put the girl in first grade.  No tests, turmoil, or tantrums.  Mrs. Pepper welcomes all.

The Outcome:  Second grade, here I come.

A great bunch of kids.

One talented teacher.

Beginner’s luck.
