It’s like deja-vu, all over again.
~ Yogi Berra
I marvel at trompe l’oeil images. I wish I had the artistic ability to depict an object so exactly as to make it appear real. It’s a witty and serious game the artist plays with us. You know this window isn’t real but it doesn’t stop you from looking twice. Genius.
In 1999, the town of Winslow put the finishing touches on their Standin’ on the Corner Park. It sports a life-size statue of a relaxed dude-with-guitar and a 2-story trompe l’oeil mural. A girl and a flatbed Ford are reflected in a storefront and an eagle perches on the window sill. Very cool.
