WP Cheri’s photo challenge this week is to capture something unexpected.

When you ride an escalator, it’s usually inside a tall building, right?

Take a look at this moving staircase ~ outdoors in an urban environment.

In Barcelona, I hiked across the city and up, up, up into a high and distant neighborhood.  I stumbled across a few thoughtfully placed escalators that carry locals up to their homes and weary tourists like me to Parc Güell.

Taking the stairs was never this easy.

I love this innovative mass-transit plan, don’t you?

  1. Las Vegas is one of the best cities for this kind of “transportation”. They have escalators, moving sidewalks and people mover thingys from one end of the strip to the other. I have never seen it applied to an area outside of a downtown core like you have shown.
