That is happiness;
to be dissolved into something complete and great.
– Willa Cather
Every Long Island piano player aspires to be Billy Joel. Including me. He’s a poet and a storyteller who mesmerizes his audience with a piano and a mic.
Joel is an artist with a huge heart and talent to match. He often speaks to college students and breaks down some of his songs on the piano for them.
Freshman Michael Pollack got the thrill of a lifetime during a Q&A at Vanderbilt University. One Epic Moment.
“My favorite song of yours is New York State of Mind”, Pollack said from his seat in the audience. “I was very fortunate to play with Richie Cannata [Joel’s saxophone player] many times in New York City and I was wondering if I could play it with you.”
The kid’s got moxie.
The Piano Man’s got class. He says, “What key?”
Pollack plays. Flawlessly.
Watch the smile on this kid’s face. That’s happiness.
Michael took a chance. And he’s on his iTunes-way.
