Can’t you see

Life’s easy

If you consider things

From another point of view?

WP Blogger Cheri says take a picture of a familiar subject in a fresh way. One of her suggestions ~ Get low on the ground, get a different angle.

In this week’s Photography 101 postLynn Wohlers offers advice on photography and point of view.

As I read about POV, Shel Silverstein kept popping into my head.  The man had such a drive-by genius way of looking at things.

Point Of View

Thanksgiving dinner’s sad and thankless
Christmas dinner’s dark and blue
When you stop and try to see it
From the turkey’s point of view.
Sunday dinner isn’t sunny
Easter feasts are just bad luck
When you see it from the viewpoint
Of a chicken or a duck.
Oh how I once loved tuna salad
Pork and lobsters, lamb chops too
‘Til I stopped and looked at dinner
From the dinner’s point of view.

  1. I like to perch in different chairs to jar my point of view. It looks like this: rather than always sitting in THAT chair over THERE I’ll sit for awhile in the little one in the corner, or the red one in the middle of the room where it’s been for a few days, or the bench near the couch, or the step right outside the door, or the middle stair on the way upstairs. And I just look around for a few minutes, viewing the usual at a slant, and I get to see things a little differently. It’s how I came to love spiders, I think, sitting on that middle stair and spying them way up in the corner of the sloped ceiling, where they catch the flies that otherwise would be landing on me.

  2. Vantage point is key to the way we see life–and adjust to change. Some days I can trace the evolution of my life and the various ways I should have, could have, needn’t have viewed it! That doesn’t mean I learned anything–ha! Self-will is strong! Habits die hard. Change demands courage and flexibility. I’m still a work in progress!!! M.
